Our review methodology
We score every device the same way, on the factors that decide whether red light therapy can actually help your pain.
What we score
- Wavelengths. Whether the device delivers both red (about 630 to 660 nm) and near-infrared (about 800 to 850 nm and up), and whether it reaches the depth your condition needs.
- Irradiance (power). The real power density at a usable distance, favoring devices with independent, third-party measurements over marketing numbers.
- Build and form factor. Panels for large or deep areas, wraps for joints like the hands and knees.
- Safety. Eye protection and sensible usage guidance.
- Value. Performance for the price, including running cost.
How we use research
For every condition we cover, we read the strongest available studies, systematic reviews and randomized trials first, and report the effect honestly, including when it is modest, short-term, or uncertain. We never invent statistics, and we cite our sources.
Independence
Rankings are based on this methodology only. Brands cannot pay for a higher place. We update reviews as new devices and new research appear. See our Editorial Policy and Affiliate Disclosure.
